Perched high on a Te Arai hillside, this modular bach was designed to capture sweeping ocean views from nearly every angle. Built offsite by Makespace Build at thejr Auckland yard, the project was delivered in three sections, with a timber deck thoughtfully connecting the modules and extending the living space into the natural surroundings.

The exterior pairs modern vertical shiplap cladding featuring JSC TMT Taiga, coated in JSC Scumble Nightfall, where the sleek vertical shiplap profile and deep, near-black coating give the home a bold, modern presence. Yet, rather than feeling stark, the natural timber grain and butterfly knots soften its form, allowing it to feel at home within the lush, tree-filled landscape. The home stands out against the greenery while still feeling like it belongs. Inside, warm timber tones continue, complemented by black accents that tie the interior back to the exterior’s refined palette.

A bach designed to feel both striking and grounded - thoughtfully crafted, beautifully detailed, and positioned to take in the view.
