Built by Ryse Construction on the main road into Riverhead, this compact garage balances simplicity with sharp detailing. Designed and constructed by Matt Nicholls for his own use, the build reflects a clear design vision, strong lines, clean proportions, and minimal fuss.

Wanting something that would hold its shape and colour over time, Matt chose JSC’s TMT Taxon, coated in JSC Scumble Suede Wood Oil, a combination that delivered the deep, rich tones he was after, while offering long-term ease of care.

“It’s holding up incredibly well,” Matt says. “I’ve already had other builders and architects come out to see it in person and once they do, it makes sense.”

As both the builder and client, Matt used this project as a chance to explore what restraint and quality can look like when paired with the right materials, showing that even small builds can make a big impression.
