Revitalised Muriwai Surf Club

The new Muriwai Surf Club stands as a testament to community strength, designed to replace an aging structure battling sand-dune erosion. Drawing inspiration from the Kiwi bach concept, the architects created a warm and functional space that feels like a second home for many. Key to this project was JSC VertiClad, a product rigorously tested and accredited to meet New Zealand Building Code standards. Its Vertical Shiplap Weatherboards added both durability and coastal elegance.

Strategically located inland to combat erosion, the facility maximizes outdoor space with wash-down decks, gear access, and a sheltered courtyard for gatherings and events. Expanded facilities now cater to diverse community needs, ensuring quick access to surf-lifesaving equipment. Since its opening in February 2013, the surf club has received resounding praise for seamlessly integrating with the local environment and ethos, becoming a vital hub for recreation and safety in Muriwai.
